Yea! Kathy is here! Boo, we couldn’t have her fly the dogs down, the heat wave in Huston where they would connect made it unsafe for the doggies - but we’re glad to have her.
Kat was a savior - she brought all kinds of items for our house, soft goods like towels and sheets and a few pots and pans.
So we picked her up Tuesday night in the rental car, and explained with apologies that we have appointments to see more the next day, and I have to go in to the school to teach. Kat says she’s just happy to be here.
So the next day, we go visit a Kia Sportage - yuck, it was a 1993 in bad shape. As Kat, Ryan and I are driving around, we see a “Se Vende” sign on a Subaru 4 x 4 station wagon. We jump out and take a look. It is in great shape, this little cute man has treated this thing like his baby. After our mechanic’s overview and running it by our Tico neighbors, we were sold!
(pics and video will be up soon!)
Then we went to the Butler Academy. I taught my fourth class - and asked if I could start my full-time job after Kathy and Terry leave. The school was fine with that, so we leave Sunday for a trip to Monteverde after Terry arrives. My students are great - funny, motivated, and they love to tease and make jokes. The three hour classes fly by.
Day 3 of Kat’s visit, we hiked up to the Barva Volcano, about 15 miles from our house. The guide book says there’s a 4 x 4 only road, 3 km long at the end of the drive. HA! Who are they kidding. This road was so crazy, I wouldn’t dare drive any car up it - 4 x 4 or not. So we abandoned our new car at the bottom of the road and hiked up to the actual “hike” around the volcano. We had a 20 minute diversion as we were forced to hike between a herd of cows, as I was convinced they would bite or kick us.
When we finally got to the top of this road (the cows had NO interest in us, other than to splay us as they went to the bathroom) we had a beautiful 2 hr. hike.
Tomorrow we head to Jaco beach - the closest beach to the Central Valley (where most of the population lives) and the most visited Tico beach.
