We have some permanent visitors.....Bear and Osa have finally made the trip to Costa Rica! We picked them up at the airport at 12:30 pm. I dropped Amy off, so she could find out where the dogs were. Meanwhile, I tried to fight my way into the long line of orange taxis (generally taxis are red in Costa Rica, but airport taxis are orange) so that we didn’t have to walk the dogs through a crowd of people. I finally snaked my way in and parked my car at the curb. Amy was frantically looking for the dogs and asking people where she could pick them up. Then some hombre said I heard some barking over there. Amy and I ran over and saw the 2 dog crates with some airport officials. So let me back track now and talk about the process of getting the dogs here....
We originally planned to fly the dogs down with Kathy, but we decided that it would be too hectic to have the dogs, Kathy, and Terry all arriving in the same week. So we decided to wait until after they left. In order to fly the dogs as cargo, you have to call the airline 3 days before you want to send them to see if their is room on the plane. This became a nightmare. Right as we were trying to send the dogs, the UK foiled a terrorist plot involving planes going to the U.S. After that it was impossible to get the dogs on a plane because of all the baggage restrictions. All this time, poor Kathy was taking the brunt of this nightmare. She was handling everything on the U.S. end. She was making sure the crates were the right size, taking the dogs for their health certificates, getting approval from the consulate, helping with the calling, and taking care of other little things the dogs needed for the flight.
After all that, we finally got the green light from Continental and the dogs flew out on September 17th. They stayed the night in Atlanta, and then flew to San Jose, Costa Rica.
So far, things have been good with the dogs. They seem very happy to be with us again. So we will keep you posted.
